Location

The Grund is the medieval valley quarter directly below the Ville Haute, inside the UNESCO-listed perimeter of the old city and fortifications. Stone houses, the river, the Neumünster abbey and the rock faces of the Bock give it a scale and a light that nothing else in the capital has. It is small, protected and almost entirely residential above the riverside.

Everyday shopping and food
The valley itself carries only a few small shops and a bakery, which is part of its charm. Everyday shopping is done in the Ville Haute, reached in around two minutes by the public lift at the Plateau du Saint-Esprit, or in the Gare quarter a short bus ride away.
Banking, post and administration
The Grund is part of the commune of Luxembourg City, and the Bierger-Center and the main banking and postal services are all in the Ville Haute directly above. The lift makes that a genuinely short trip rather than a climb.
Shops and services
Daily services are concentrated on the plateau above, while the valley holds cultural institutions, the abbey and its programme, and the network of paths that run along the river towards Clausen in one direction and the Pétrusse in the other.
Transport and connections
City buses run through the valley and connect to Hamilius and the station, and the public lift links the Grund directly to the Ville Haute. The Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg station and its funicular up to the tram are a short journey away, which puts Kirchberg within easy reach without a car.
Eating out and evenings
The riverside is one of the two classic evening addresses of the capital, with terraces along the Alzette and a concentration of bars and restaurants that stays lively at weekends. Streets away from the water are quiet, and the difference is worth checking at a viewing.
Green space and walks
The riverside path, the Rham plateau, the casemates and the Pétrusse valley are all on the doorstep, which gives the quarter one of the best walking networks in the city without leaving the capital.

What exactly is included in the rent?

A rental guarantee is paid before the keys are handed over. The amount is set in the lease, within the limit fixed by Luxembourg law, and is returned after the departure inventory once any agreed deductions are settled.
Which documents do I need to apply?
An identity document, proof of income such as an employment contract or your two most recent payslips, and, for non-EU nationals, the relevant residence document. Nothing else is needed to start.
Are pets allowed?
Pets are considered on request, taking account of the building rules and, in a shared apartment, the other residents.
